We ran a quick interview with Judson Cabalatungan (Philippines) who took our the People’s Choice Award with his huge Freelancer logo in the sugar cane fields. Here is the interview below.
Question 1: What do you do for a living at the moment?
Answer: I’m currently employed in the City Government of Kabankalan as Computer Department In-charge. I also do system programming, website design and computer repairs in my free time.
Question 2: How did you come up with your Sugar Cane Field idea?
Answer: The sugar cane idea comes up after discussions with some of my group in Kabankalan Airsoft Association (KASA). They are Ian Senope, Jonathan Alvarez, Henry Dionillo. With the “THINK BIG” idea you suggested and looking to the available resources we have in our place, a giant logo below the highland resort is our best option. Sugar cane is the main product of Kabankalan City-the city is sorrounded with sugarcane plantations.
Question 3: What was involved in the planning and implementation of your campaign?
Answer: Planning involves strict compliance in your criteria placing Freelancer.com in a positive light. Joining the contest was my plan, I did the measurements of the logo while my friends gathered the materials to be used. We went up to the resort with camera, laptop, radios, strings and rolls of white plastic strip. We started working early in the morning and lasted in the afternoon. The heat of the sun at 35*C gave flavor to our work. This hard work has challenged us to win the prize. I also posted pictures of our work in my Kabankalan Photo Gallery Website (www.kasa.tk/gallery) and told my friends, families and relatives around the world about it. The bigger challenge came at the last days of voting, we distributed flyers promoting our entry and even published it in the local cable channel.
Question 4: How did people respond to Freelancer and your giant logo in the field?
Answer: People wondered what was the logo all about, asking questions and it gave us the opportunity to tell them about Freelancer.com and the contest. This informed them that jobs are available online through Freelancer.com.
Question 5: What will winning this competition and the People’s Choice Award mean for you?
Answer: Winning this competition is an honor not only to us but to all Kabankalan people as well.
$2,500 is something! We plan to start a new business out of it helping our families especially with the crisis in the Philippines. We will also sponsor a “Feeding Program” for the less fortunate children in that highland resort and the neighboring mountains. This is our dream even before joining the contest. Now that we have won the contest, we have available money on-hand to pursue our dream. Thank you!
